Bee in the Mountains
Symposium 2007 – Mars Hill, NC

The 29th Annual NC Quilt Symposium, "Bee In the Mountains" was a most picture perfect place to be in May 2007. It was a great success! Western North Carolina Quilt Guild hosted in Mars Hill, NC, at Mars Hill College, with a reported 25% guild participation in NC Symposium 2007.

There were twenty fabulous teachers, offering classes and lectures. The Opening Ceremony concluded with a teacher exhibit in the lecture hall foyer, and a chance to purchase books and meet the teachers.

The Quilt Show was held in the school gym, with 112 entries, including three wearable entries.

There were seventeen vendors.

The Special Awards winners are:

Viewer's Choice: Hearts In Bloom, Francis Yoder - $50.00. Three hundred thirty three votes were cast, eighty-six for the winner. Sixty-six entries received votes.

Best of Show: Leaf Cycles V, Patsy Thompson, $150.00

Best Hand Quilting: Star of Bethlehem, Louise Mac Donald, $50.00

Best Machine Quilting: Leaf Cycles V, Patsy Thompson, $50.00

Best Use of Color: Hearts in Bloom, Frances Yoder, $50.00

Most Innovative: Vincent's Sunflower Daze, Judy Petersen, $50.00

Best Embellishment: I thought I saw a Mermaid, Susan Hudspeth, $50.00

Symposium 2008 – Wilmington, NC

The members of the Quilters By The Sea Guild, and the North Carolina Symposium, Inc., invite you to join us for Quilting By The Sea, Symposium 2008. Symposium will be held on the campus of UNC-Wilmington, May 29 – June 1, 2008.

We are looking forward to great classes from national and international teachers, renowned in the field of quilting. For a full list of teachers, see our website, www.ncqsi.org . You’ll find links to the teacher's websites, and information on Symposium, as it is available. Registration information will be posted in early 2008. We expect a magnificent quilt show, a fine assortment of merchants and entertaining evening events. The most important part of the event will be you!

NCQSI Board Meeting

The Spring NCQSI Board meeting was held in Burlington, NC in March 2007. New Board members were welcomed for their first three-year term: Marty Dail from Washington, NC, Terri Townsend from Hickory, NC, Danielle Barr of Charlotte and Cindy Ward of Elizabeth City.

We are delighted to have contracts with hosts for future Symposia: Capitol Quilters, Raleigh, NC will host Symposium 2009; and Charlotte Quilters Guild will host in 2010.

The Board will hold is annual fall meeting in early October, 2007, in Burlington, NC.
