Summer 2009

The 30th Annual NC Quilt Symposium, "Raleigh City of Oaks" was held on May 28-31, 2009 on the campus of Peace College in Raleigh, sponsored by NCQSI and Capital Quilters.   The Vendor Mall and Quilt Show were held in the Hermann Student Center with additional vendors in the lobby of the Kenan Music Building. Activities included the Teachers’ Show and Tell and evening programs given by the Quilters Gallery, Rachel Clark, Charlotte Warr Andersen and Yvonne Porcella.  The 2009 opportunity quilt “Quercus Quiltus, Oak Quilt”, designed by Mary Corcoran and inspired by a quilt in the collection of the North Carolina Museum of History, was created with the help of over 30 members of Capital Quilters Guild. There was a special silent auction, Purseonalities, of unique purses made and donated to benefit Interact, a United Way agency working with victims of domestic violence.

Symposium lecturers and instructors for 2009 included Charlotte Warr Andersen, Cindy Brick, Debbie Caffrey, Hollis Chatelain, Rachel Clark, Nancy Brenan Daniel, Carol Doak, Ginny Eckley, Sandy Fitzpatrick, John Flynn, Barb Gardner, Becky Goldsmith, Harriet Hargrave, Lyric Montgomery Kinard, Ellen Lindner, Jennette DeNicolis Meyer, Judith Baker Montano, Sue Nickels, Yvonne Porcella, Nancy Prince, Elly Sienkiewicz, Larkin Jean Van Horn, Barb Vlack and Amy Stewart Winsor.
