Go Tell It on the Mountain

Symposium 2002 was a great success! Check back soon for photos! Held in the Smokey Mountains at the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain, NC, the event was co-hosted by NCQSI and the Asheville Quilt Guild from Thursday, May 23 through Sunday, May 26, 2002.

Their theme was “Go Tell It On The Mountain” and they designed activities to give participants a sense of the mountains and their unique heritage.

The Asheville Quilt Guild outdid themselves at Symposium 2002! Laura Casey, Connie Williams and the rest of the guild made sure all who attended went away with many fond memories. Some of the comments overheard were: "What a spectacular view! What nice weather! The food was great – and so was the cafeteria service! Tie-dyed socks…NEAT!"

A total of 280 full-time boarding students, 60 full-time commuters and 75 purchasing day tickets enjoyed Symposium 2002. Fifty went on the bus tour, which was said to be "a roaring success."

Other highlights included a wonderful program by Gerald Roy in which he showed many beautiful and interesting quilt tops – not quilts, just tops – and discussed why so many are found unfinished. Saturday night, Rachel Clark hosted a fashion show featuring her beautiful and whimsical creations "Clothing for the Body and Soul."
